Which might be why they are almost done existing now, actually. Hi currently I have Realtek alc 1150 connect to my HT with optical cable but Realtek audio manager doesn't give us enough option on digital output. That's the ONLY thing Creative has left that no one else has, and ever since Microsoft buried DirectSound3D/EAX in a shallow grave with Vista/7, you'd think Creative would understand that OpenAL is crucial to their continued existence.

Really? I would think it's hugely in Creative's interest to promote OpenAL since without hardware sound acceleration a Creative card is a waste of money over onboard software audio. It's not in Creative's best interest to promote it. Still not one of these titles touts Hardware acceleration as a benefit and barely acknowledges that OpenAL is used aside from perhaps Dirt2.Ĭonsidering Creative is essentially in control of OpenAL, it's no wonder it's not more widely used. The one outlier I found in all the games released last year was Dirt2 which uses OpenAL and includes " Rapture 3D" for audio rendering. Yeah taking a look around at it now it seems there are new titles using OpenAL, but only because thats what UnrealEngine3 uses for audio. I haven't seen one personally since Bioshock 1. However the closed is nice if your environment around you is noisy and you need that noise isolation.I'm actually curious which games. With the bigger soundstage, it makes directional noise better? I'm not entirely sure but everywhere I've read had said that an open design would be preferable when gaming over a closed. I've heard that an opened design is better for gaming because of the larger soundstage. As an audio engineer I would choose 598s for music and the ZERO for gaming. The 598s are flat frequency response which means they are the more accurate of the 2. They are also open ear which will let you hear what is going on around you as well, but deliver less bass because of this. They have higher frequency response which is good for classical or jazz, but will not give you anything extra when gaming. The 598s are more of an audiophile headphone. They are closed ear so they will be isolating and deliver deeper bass. The last item you might want to look at if you are getting better headphones because if they are underpowered they will not sound as good as they can.Īs far as the headphones are concerned you are better off going with the Sennheiser G4ME ZERO if your main priority is gaming. the sonic stage just switches software profiles from the motherboard and sonic sense will boost power for more expensive headphones. 2014 is the current SupremeFX package offering more 7.1 surround support and DTS connect. The primary difference with Supreme FX is in the software package being slightly different between them. I don't suppose you may have some experience with these two cans to help me make a decision?
Currently trying to find out whether the HD 598's are worth the extra money or not as I'm purely aiming to use it for gaming, more specifically directional and positional sound. Are these different in terms of different features offered? Or are they still the exact same from one another?Īctually I'm glad you brought up 200$ headphones, I'm currently debating whether to purchase the Sennheiser game ones or the Sennheiser HD 598s. You would need a high end sound system or some $200 headphones to hear any difference though.Īccording to this chart for the Maximus motherboards, there are different names for each motherboard of the SupremeFX, such as SupremeFX 2014, SupremeFX Impact 2. They are very similar, not exactly the same. Asus doesn't really give any specifications on their website so it's hard to figure out which chip it really is. Supreme FX is a realtek chip (can't remember which one) with some software and a bit of extra shielding from interference if I understand it correctly. So the SupremeFX has the exact same audio quality as the ALC1150? Basically a better software package, not audio quality improvement. Best Internal Sound Cards based on Tech Support. SupremeFX controllers from Asus, whatever generation, is nothing more than a 1st tier Realtek sound controller with modded driver, which brings more features than quality. Comparison of Creative Sound Blaster Z PCIe Gaming Sound Card Vs ASUS XONAR SE 5.1 Channel 192kHz/24-bit Hi-Res 116dB SNR PCIe Gaming Sound Card. The realtek 1150 is the same as suppreme fx on the asus, all the suppreme fx is is a realtek 1150 codec with some fancy software.
